Freedom of Speech, Social Media and Revolutions

A lot have been said about the role of  Twitter and Facebook in the Tunisian’s “Jasmine revolution”, but social media did nothing to ignite this revolt. It was the Tunisians who wanted to end 24 years of dictatorship, corruption, unemployment and most of all the NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH !

The social media amplified the messages and allowed millions of people to interact, exchange news in real-time and get organized in unprecedented magnitude.

I think this teach us a great lesson: even if you prohibit the usage of social media at work, people will do it anyway, they use mobile technology, send SMS that are impossible to tract, etc…and if you don’t listen and ignore messages that your employees are saying about your company… you might end up like Ben Ali !
